DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (“DiGi”) is driving higher mobile Internet penetration by partnering with the world’s leading web browser developer, Opera Software, to become the first Malaysian mobile operator to co-brand Opera Mini. The non-smartphone users among DiGi customers will enjoy the full mobile Internet experience at a faster and cheaper rate through the DiGi-Opera Mini browser, which was launched yesterday.

The advantages of the public version of the Opera Mini browser still apply to the DiGi-Opera Mini version. Its compression technology of up to 90% creates a faster surfing experience, including for those who own EDGE-enabled mobile phones. DiGi customers will enjoy much faster browsing speed than other native mobile phone browsers. By using the DiGi co-branded Opera Mini browser, customers are free from mobile Internet charges when surfing DiGi sites, generating substantial cost savings for the total browsing experience compared to using other browsing platforms.

Digi offering free Digi-Opera Mini browser for a limited period

24 March 2011 – Digi is having a partnership with Opera to co-brand the Opera Mini to bring the Digi-Opera Mini browser, aiming to drive higher mobile Internet penetration. The Digi-Opera Mini browser will share the same feature as the public version Opera Mini browser, featuring the its unique compression technique that compresses up 90% of the data, benefits Digi customers with cheaper data charges and faster web browsing than the preloaded web browser in the phone. Plus, the DiGi-Opera Mini browser supports content purchase. It is also able to support most smartphone and non-smartphone devices.

The Digi-Opera Mini browser is strictly for both prepaid and postpaid Digi customers only. In conjunction with the launch of the DiGi-Opera Mini browser, there will be no mobile internet charges when customers download the DiGi-Opera Mini browser directly to their phones from http://m.opera.com from 23 March – 31 May 2011. After the promotion period, standard mobile Internet charges will apply when downloading the Digi-Opera Mini browser. DiGi prepaid customers will also stand a chance to grab a FREE 1MB if they download the application during the campaign period.

Existing users who had the Opera Mini 6 installed in their phones may not need to redownload the co-branded browser, as it will be updated automatically via OTA (over-the-air). However, Opera Mini 4.3 users have to re-download the client.
